Reno

The Mountains, The Valleys, The Casinos… You can bet on a good time in Reno!
If you think that Reno is just another gaming town… don't place your money on it. Sitting snuggled in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, Reno has the perfect mix of wild west history, yearlong outdoor adventure and of course, night time action.

Although it's the lesser hyped of Nevada's known casino towns, Reno can offer you excitement that Vegas will never be able to deliver. That's because when you step away from the tables and the slots, Mother Nature is ready to deal you a winning hand. Whether you want to sail across the pristine, prehistoric nearby Lake Tahoe or stay within city limits and kick it up a notch by kayaking down the Truckee River — Reno will keep you busy and entertained. You can ski, golf, and gamble all in the same day.

Of course, if you have had enough adventure and don't want to test your luck, you can explore the Nevada Museum of Art or the Arts District – both in downtown. This will offer any urbanite their needed dose of culture. And if you want to immerse yourself with the past while living in the present, Reno still has you covered. After all, the Truckee region is rich in historic significance. Named for the Paiute Indian Chief in 1844, Truckee is well known for its unforgiving Emigrant Trail, as well as for the tragic expedition of the Donner Party.

Another great thing about Reno is that you don't have to stay put for the thrill of it all. You can turn this way and run into the crystal-clear luxury of Lake Tahoe. Turn that way and your walking down wood plank sidewalks of a Western ghost town. It's a long and winding road and there is something to discover at every turn.

Reno Transportation

Fortunately, (considering the fate of the Donner Party and many others) Reno is a lot easier to get to today. In fact, for most of the country it's a simple non-stop flight into the Reno-Tahoe International Airport. Once you're on the ground getting around is still very convenient. You can rent a car right from the airport or use bus service and public transportation. Whether you want to go casino hopping, shopping or wander around the art district, you'll generally find a Citifare bus nearby.

Reno Attractions

Reno has lots of attractive things to see and do… it's just that many of them are not actually labeled as official "attractions." The Sierra Nevada Mountains are certainly a sight to see but there's no official website to send you to or admission rates to tell you about. You can simply admire them from afar or get up close and personal and hike them if you dare. The Truckee River is also worth a visit, whether you choose to kayak down it or just marvel at its beauty as it runs through downtown. And there's always the casinos and ski resorts that may be considered attractions by many but in our book they are casinos and resorts. If you want places that are deemed attractions by most guidebooks here they are:

Fleischmann Planetarium
National Automobile Museum
National Bowling Stadium
Nevada Historical Society Museum
Nevada Shakespeare Company
Nevada Museum of Art
University of Nevada, Reno Arboretum
Wilbur D. May Arboretum and Botanical Garden

Reno Pops Orchestra
Artown
Pioneer Center For Performing Arts

Reno Shopping

From the big spenders to the bargain hunters — Reno's shopping will satisfy every shopping personality. If you're looking for the big chain stores you find back in your city you're covered. If you prefer the funky boutiques and one-of-a-kind stores - you'll find those too. Reno has numerous shopping districts that will keep even the most skilled shop-a-holic busy for hours.

The Summit Sierra
An open-air, lifestyle shopping center with over 70 shops, a theatre and a variety of dining experiences; complete with fountains, paths and fire pits to cozy up to on cool evenings.
Meadowood Mall
A long-time Reno favorite, Meadowood Mall, will delight shoppers with over 100 stores and is conveniently located at city center.
Truckee River Arts District
Make sure to visit both the CALAVE and Riverwalk sections of the district for unique shopping excursions to specialty shops, antique stores, boutiques and galleries. Two more exceptional stops for any Reno shopping excursion are: Plumgate, located at W. Plumb Lane and S. Arlington Avenue, and Mayberry Landing, located at 3886 Mayberry Drive. Don't miss 'em!

Reno Nightlife

A little more refined in its nightlife than its gambling sister city, Reno still keeps the fun coming when the sun goes down. There's definitely no denying that the casinos are where much of the action goes down. These are major resorts with enough cabaret lounges, intimate bars and dance clubs to keep you up all night long and you'll never have to leave the premises. Downtown Reno's art district has its share of swanky clubs as well. Whatever you're in the mood for, dancing, partying, or rolling the dice, Reno will always deal you a winning hand.

Reno Weather

For all the outdoor adventure that Reno offers it's only natural that it provides the ideal climate to enjoy it. Resting comfortably at an elevation of 4,400 feet, this Nevada city gets over 300 sunny days each year. July and August are the warmest and clearest months with temperatures reaching averages of 86°F and above.

The Reno area receives about 12 inches of precipitation annually, with snow falling anytime between October and April. In Lake Tahoe — just a 45-minute drive from the city — plenty of snow falls to cover the slopes at all 15 ski resorts.
